In confidents it was written by Mrs. Brisbane(Sibbrena, Ireleda) the step-mother of Arthur Brisbane of the New York Journal, she married his fatherWhich was also named Arthur Brisbane. After his death is prepared the Mental Biography of the elder Brisbane which was published.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
